Monitoring vs. Information Systems

For most people, the words monitoring system evoke a system which collects data semi-continuously. However, this data is useless without tools to translate this data into information. The INL developed systems do just this: they collect data and translate it into useable information. Thus, while we also use the term monitoring system (mainly for historical reasons), we prefer to use the term Environmental Information System
